Grilled Cheese: Brie and Pears

Seasonal take on a classic.

Health Information


  • Melon baller or pairing knife
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Skillet/frying pan


  • Bread: French
  • Butter/margarine
  • Cheese: Brie
  • Pear: 1x
  • Pepper
  • Thyme
  • Salt


Food Preparation

  1. Put the brie in the fridge to make it easier to cut
  2. Cut the bread
  3. Butter the bread, one side of each slice
  4. Cut the pear in half
  5. Use the melon baller or pairing knife to remove the pears seeds, bit at either end and the fibrous part up the middle
  6. Slice half the pear, roughly 1/8th of an inch
  7. Cut the brie


  1. Skillet/frying pan on the stove top, at medium heat
  2. Put the buttered bread in the pan, buttered side down
  3. Lay the strips of cheese on each bread slice
  4. Add pepper and thyme on top of the cheese, on one slice of bread (half the sandwich)
  5. Add layer of pear slices, on one slice of bread (half the sandwich)
  6. Add very little salt on top of the pear
  7. Flip the non-pear slice of bread on top of the slice of bread with pear
  8. Grill on both sides until brown & crispy
  9. Remove from heat
  10. Cut in half
  11. Serve


  • A panini machine could be used instead
