Micheladas are not a challenging thing: Pour beer into a glass, shake in some hot sauce or sauces, squeeze in a lime, salt well. Everyone has their own way of doing it, their own set of ratios, their own sauce. I make mine in a can.
To makes things even easier, start with a beer that is already mixed with tomato juice (Sol makes one). I’m really not a fan of the Michelada, but I’ve seen people make them the way you describe starting with the tomatoey beer.
Chili is personal, and you have your favorite recipe. I respect that. I’m not here to argue with your one true chili love.
But I would bet that there are some ways that you could make your tried-and-true recipe even better. I’m just talking about little things to add extra flavor here or give some richness there—small tweaks that, when tallied up, amount to a more fantastic chili.
Some will think cinnamon in chili is an abomination. And I like cinnamon. In ice cream. On apples. In chewing gum. But in chili? It’s worth an experiment – cinnamon can do some interesting things in more savory dishes.
To get technical: The higher the alcohol content, the less calories you’ll end up taking in since you’ll get drunk much much faster. So beer is the worst option, and Everclear or pure alcohol is the best. Vodka is just as good as Everclear because it’s basically grain alcohol diluted with water.
Alcohol has 7 calories per gram. So 100 mL of something with more alcohol content in it will have more calories. If you’re drinking beer over liquor, you’ll end up consuming more calories. If we’re strictly talking pure liquor (no mixers, etc), then it’s not going to make a difference what you drink really. Clear alcohols like Vodka, Gin, and Everclear will have less calories than, say, Rum, but even then you’re talking the difference of maybe 30-40 calories a shot? However 40% ABV rum has pretty much the same amount of calories per shot as 40% ABV vodka or gin (maybe +/- 3 calories per shot). The % ABV is the main determiner of how many calories will be in a shot of hard alcohol – see here. This isn’t true if you are drinking something like Malibu or some sort of liqueur which has a lot of added sugars and stuff, but for things like Captain Morgan or Maker’s Mark, it will be.

Keep in mind to make sure you have enough to eat beforehand within your caloric limits or something to snack on during. You can try to cut calories all you want with your choice of drink, but what’s stopping piss-drunk you from grabbing fast food at 3 AM – undoing all that calorie-cutting effort?
If you want to be remotely healthy, don’t eat junk food. It’s that simple. Because it’s really not worth it (oh but it is, sometimes) when you try to burn off all those bad calories you just ate. Think about the exercise! Think about the weights! Think about the cardio! Think about all that when you’re about to eat a Big Mac and Fries because you need about an hour and a half of cardio or two hours of weights to whip that out your system.
Calorie counters do not combat sustenance, they combat gluttony. We are inundated with so much food in our day-to-day lives that it’s hard to give our body exactly what it needs rather than overconsuming. Junk food is particularly good at supplying calories. If you let your body follow its own will, you’ll consume your daily allowance of calories easily. Even when you’re trying to control your calorie intake, we typically overconsume. We’re meant to eat as much as possible in the wild, when food was scarce and we ran 30 miles a day. Now it isn’t, we don’t, and our brains don’t quite get that…
Some food and drink just go hand-in-hand: cookies and milk, pasta and wine, and hot dogs and beer, for example. But actually, beer is such a versatile beverage that relegating it to only being paired with hot dogs (and occasionally wings) would be a crime. With a wide range of weights and flavors, beer can complement any food from salads to barbecue- as long as you follow three foundational principles of beer and food pairing.
