Your urine may be of more use kept about your person. At least, that’s what a team of researchers from the University of the West of England think, because they’ve made a pair of socks that use the liquid to generate electricity.

The first I remember to suggest such technology was the stillsuit in Dune.  Which brings up the point that this could be beneficial for travel in places such as space.  Electricity doesn’t do much good in the desert 😉

…and wearable charging technology has been talked about for a while, with respect to supporting our cellphone/mobile and such.

How to Run in the Winter (Without Freezing Your Butt Off)

  • I use wool socks for everything – running, cycling, triathlon (not the swimming part!).
  • Silk sock liners are awesome for keeping feet warm and add very little bulk under normal socks.
  • If it’s slippery out, might want to use trail runners
  • Body heat: the bigger you are (whether muscle or fat) and the faster you run, the more sweat and heat you’ll generate
  • The article didn’t mention lights.  I own a headlamp – it’s rechargeable, but I’m not impressed with it’s ability to hold a charge.
  • Spikes: The shorter, the better. The longer they are, the more they alter how your foot rolls off. I don’t use any on snow, but on ice?  Use 0.25 inch, maximum.
